Maryland State Fair - Toddler Style

I’ve already had the pleasure of taking my 2 year old twins past all the amusement park rides that they are not tall enough to go on. Thank you very much, but I will pass on recreating that experience. So when my husband suggested that I might be able to make it to the Maryland State Fair, I might have mocked him, just a bit.

But really, as he pointed out, it is entirely possible to skip all the tantrum-inducing parts and get right to the good stuff. Start off by taking the light rail to the Timonium Fairgrounds stop. It drops you off at the Cow Palace entrance, which is exactly where you want to start. You can wander amongst the stalls for ages and visit cows, llamas, alpacas, chickens, pigs, you name it. The baby chicks were my kids’ favorite. You can watch them hatching out of eggs and maybe even get to pet one. There are plenty of hand-washing stations positioned oh so thoughtfully next to the food area. We got a snack and I even bought some big smoked turkey legs to take back for dinner.

Okay, now it’s time to make your get-away. If you’re thinking about heading to the rides, stop. You know better. Just get out of there and head for the train. See, not a single tantrum. Didn’t I tell you it would be a good idea?
